The bowling competition was held on Sunday 28th September 2025 and unlike previous years the weather was warm and dry although the greens were damp throughout the competition. 21 participants were divided into seven groups of three for the first round which involved each bowler playing a game of seven ends against each of other two in their group. Ownership of the jack was decided by a toss of a coin for the first end of each game. Players were also instructed to decide before any play commenced which of the seven ends to assign the 'joker'. This would have the effect of doubling any points gained at that end.
Upon completion of the first round the eight bowlers obtaining the most points total went through to the quarter finals stage. This involved each bowler playing consecutively two sets of seven ends against their opponent with a 'joker' (as described above) being assigned to one of ends 1 to 7 and the other to one of ends 8 to 14. The semi finals followed the same format as the quarters.
The remaining two players going through to the final played 21 ends as three sets of seven with one joker-end apiece predetermined for each set of seven.

To clarify green usage during the Winter...
We will close the Bottom green from the 1st October until further notice.
The Top green will remain open to the 8th December and will reopen weather permitting on the 16th February. A further update will be issued around that time
The Top green like the Bottom green has suffered greatly during the summer months as a result it is intended to rope off certain areas to give the green a chance to revive in the worst affected areas. Please respect those areas.
As always during the winter period please consider carefully if the green is fit to play, particularly during wet periods and frosty conditions. when further damage can be done.
Our Green keeper will be working during the winter in a effort to restore both greens this will include over seeding, top dressing and fertilizers it is important therefore that particular care is taken with hand hygiene when bowling at all times. Further it may be necessary to close the greens at shot notice for work to be done much of which is weather dependent.
I am hopeful that our greens will be fully refreshed by the spring although that does depend on the weather allowing the grass to grow and thicken in the April/May period something that sadly did not happen this year.
